On Thursday night, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers announced on his Instagram Story that he had surgery to repair his ruptured Achilles tendon Wednesday.

Rodgers was smiling as he was lying on the bed in a blue medical cap and gown.

“Surgery went great yesterday,” Rodgers said in the post. “Thank you for all the love and prayers and support. And thanks to the [goat emoji] Dr. ElAtrrache and his staff for starting me on the road to recovery.”

Rodgers suffered the torn Achilles just four plays into his debut with the Jets during their 22-16 overtime victory against the Bills. On Wednesday, Rodgers had his first public comments since his injury.

“I’m completely heartbroken and moving through all of the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love,” Rodgers posted on Instagram. “Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I begin the healing process today.”

Earlier Wednesday, Jets coach Robert Saleh told reporters that Rodgers was getting “some consultations trying to figure out what the next best move is.” The four-time NFL MVP faces a long rehab process from his Achilles injury as it is reportedly a 9-12 month rehab process.

However, it doesn’t appear Rodgers, 39, is ready to retire. Saleh told reporters he would “be shocked” if he retired after this injury. Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett echoed those sentiments on Thursday.

Oh, yeah,” Hackett said. “Whenever Aaron [Rodgers] has his mind set on something, good luck for anyone that wants to change his mind.

Prior to the injury, Rodgers had mentioned on multiple occasions that he planned to play multiple years with the Jets. In July, Rodgers signed a reworked two-year, $75 million contract that is fully guaranteed. He was due to make $110 million in guarantees on the previous contract he signed with the Packers.

Zach Wilson, who replaced Rodgers in the win against the Bills, is expected to be the Jets starting quarterback for the rest of the season.
