The news comes a year after the 43-year-old model and first runner-up for 2022’s Mrs. World pageant filed her divorce petition, according to court records obtained by TMZ.

Despite previously filing for divorce in 2014 and 2022 — only to eventually backpedal both times — a spokesperson for Jaclyn confirmed to multiple outlets that she’s finally ready to move on from the 50-year-old musician after “much prayer and consideration.”

“It’s been a long battle and while this isn’t the future she envisioned, she wishes him the best,” the rep told Us Weekly. “The welfare of their children will always be her utmost concern and kindly asks for privacy during this personal time.”

The pair, who met at a New York gala for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, wed in early 2006 and share children Milan, 17, Daniel, 13, and Anthony, 6. Scott is also dad to 25-year-old Jagger through his first marriage to Hillaree Burns.

Previously in Scott’s relationship with Jaclyn, he dealt with numerous legal, mental and emotional struggles. However, all of that changed in 2015 after Scott “had a psychotic break that was brought on by alcohol and drug abuse,” he shared with People at the time.

On Saturday, a source close to the rocker told the outlet: “In 2015, Scott got the wake up call he needed. He’s overcome enormous odds and that’s a credit to his faith and the family he and Jaclyn created.”

Now at the top of his game, Scott joined Creed in April for their first performance in 12 years aboard a sold-out festival cruise. Beginning in July, the band is hitting the road on their Summer of ’99 Tour, with special guests including 3 Doors Down, Daughtry and Switchfoot in select cities.

Apple apologizes for ‘crushing’ iPad commercial after intense backlash https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/05/09/apple-ipad-pro-crush-ad-apology/ Fri, 10 May 2024 01:23:08 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7679408 Apple’s new iPad Pro commercial drew heavy criticism online, with the company now issuing an apology and the promise to no longer air the ad on TV.

The short video, released Tuesday, shows a variety of analog creative items — including a piano, trumpet, chalkboard, buckets of paint, cameras and more — all being flattened and destroyed by an industrial press.

While the ad was seemingly designed to highlight the many ways the iPad can be used to pursue countless creative endeavors, many online considered the commercial to be a tragic reflection of how technology kills creativity and the human forces behind it.

“The destruction of the human experience. Courtesy of Silicon Valley,” wrote actor Hugh Grant, in a repost of the ad on X.

In a post of her own, Reed Morano, the director of Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” told Apple CEO Tim Cook to “read the room,” adding that the ad was “actually psychotic.”

Others called the commercial an “insult to artists,” as well as an example of Apple “turning into the thing they said they were out to destroy in the 1984 ad.”

That ad in question first promoted the original Macintosh computer and portrayed Apple as saving the world from a dystopian future — much like the one written about in George Orwell’s cautionary novel “1984,” in which individuals are persecuted for independent thinking.

“Our goal is to always celebrate the myriad of ways users express themselves and bring their ideas to life through iPad,” Tor Myhren, Apple’s VP of marketing, said in a statement to Ad Age on Thursday. “We missed the mark with this video, and we’re sorry.”

Apple also confirmed that the spot will no longer be shown on TV.

American-Israeli hostage Keith Siegel appears alive for the first time in Hamas video https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/04/27/american-israeli-hostage-keith-siegel-hamas-video/ Sat, 27 Apr 2024 21:01:42 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7656973 Hamas on Saturday released a video of American-Israeli hostage Keith Siegel, the first evidence that Siegel is still alive after being taken by Hamas in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

The 64-year-old appears gaunt and distressed in the clip as he pleads for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to negotiate a cease-fire and hostage release deal.

Israeli citizen Omri Miran, 46, also appears in the video and similarly begs for Netanyahu to reach an agreement.

“I want to tell my family that I love you very much,” Siegel says in Hebrew, according to NPR. “We are in danger here. There are explosions. It’s stressful and frightening, and it’s been going on for a very long time.”

It’s unclear when exactly the video was taken, though both men refer to the Jewish holiday of Passover, which began on Monday.

Miran says he has “been here for 202 days,” suggesting the video was filmed on Thursday.

Siegel has remained in captivity ever since he and his wife, Aviva, were kidnapped by Hamas from the Kibbutz Kfar Aza, where they have lived for the past 40 years. Aviva was released on Nov. 26 during a seven-day ceasefire and hostage release agreement.

Miran was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz during the brutal attack, according to the Times of Israel. His wife and two daughters survived.

In a statement, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said the “proof of life from Keith Siegel and Omri Miran is the clearest evidence that we must do everything to approve a deal for the return of all the hostages” before Israel’s Independence Day on May 14.

Siegel’s family also reacted to the footage via the organization.

“Seeing my father today only emphasizes to all of us how much we must reach a deal as soon as possible and bring everyone home,” his daughter, Ilan, said, per CNN. “I demand that the leaders of this country watch this video and see [my] father crying out for help.”

Saturday’s hostage video is the second from Hamas this week. On Wednesday, the terrorist group released footage of 24-year-old Israeli-American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who can be seen with part of left arm missing.

In the heavily edited video, which is clearly scripted, Goldberg-Polin criticizes Netanyahu and his government for abandoning the hostages still in Gaza.

He, Siegel and Miran are three of 133 hostages remaining in Hamas captivity, though dozens of them are believed to be dead. Israel considers all unreturned people to be hostages, whether alive or dead.

Hamas and Israel for months have continued to negotiate a second cease-fire and hostage release deal, though they have yet to agree to the terms. Hamas on Saturday announced it was reviewing a new proposal from Israel for a cease-fire, which would include a limited exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners.

Britney Spears to pay $2 million in conservatorship settlement with dad https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/04/27/britney-jamie-spears-conversatorship-settlement/ Sat, 27 Apr 2024 16:56:07 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7656515 Britney Spears and her father, Jamie Spears, have finally settled their years-long dispute concerning legal fees related to the popstar’s 13-year conservatorship — with Britney reportedly now having to fork over more than $2 million to law firms Jamie hired throughout the battle.

Attorneys for both the “Stronger” singer, 42, and her father confirmed to People on Friday that the two settled the dispute — initially filed in December 2021 over alleged financial misconduct — for an undisclosed sum in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week.

Sources with direct knowledge later told TMZ that sum amounted to more than $2 million, despite her lawyer’s claims that Jamie previously paid himself $6 million from his daughter’s estate.

Attorney Mathew Rosengart allegedly assured Britney she had a solid case against her father, who he accuses of mishandling finances throughout her conservatorship and secretly surveilling his daughter via the security team he hired to protect her, according to The New York Times.

Jamie has denied any wrongdoing.

The settlement, though not what Britney and her legal team hoped for, now means the father-daughter duo will not have to address the issue in trial, which would have begun next month.

“Her wish for freedom is now truly complete,” Rosengart said in a statement to People, noting the conservatorship — which began in 2008 — has long been terminated. “Her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter.”

Jamie’s lawyer, meanwhile, said his client is “thrilled that this is all behind him. He loves his daughter very much and everything he has ever done has been to protect and support her. It is unfortunate that some irresponsible people in Britney’s life chose to drag this on for as long as it has.”

Britney highlighted the events leading up to and surrounding the conservatorship in her explosive memoir, “The Woman In Me,” which hit shelves last fall.

She also spoke on its effects in a 22-minute confessional she shared on YouTube in summer 2022.

“I do feel victimized after these experiences,” she said at the time. “I think the main thing I do remember was my dad’s control. He loved to control everything I did. … I felt like my family threw me away.”

Prime suspect in death of 13-year-old Madeline Soto officially charged with murder https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/04/24/madeline-soto-murder-stephan-sterns-charged/ Wed, 24 Apr 2024 23:37:24 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7651591 The prime suspect in the death of 13-year-old Madeline Soto has officially been charged with her murder, Florida State Attorney Andrew Bain announced Wednesday.

Stephan Sterns, 37, had already been behind bars without bond while facing 60 charges including possession of child sex abuse material related to the victim, who was found dead nearly two months ago.

Jennifer Soto, Sterns’ longtime girlfriend and Madeline’s mother, reported her daughter missing on Feb. 26 after she went to pick her up from school and found she wasn’t there.

Madeline’s body was found four days later in a remote, wooded area of Osceola County.

Investigators initially said Madeline was last seen near her school, where Sterns dropped her off that Monday morning. They later concluded “she was already dead at the time” and Sterns got rid of her body by the start of classes.

Video evidence allegedly shows Sterns “discarding items” into a suburban Orlando dumpster early that morning.

Sterns was first charged with sexual battery and possession of child sexual abuse material after police discovered disturbing photos and videos on his cellphone, including images of Madeline, Bain announced in March.

According to court documents, investigators determined the abuse dated back to at least 2019, when Madeline would have been 8 years old.

“Extensive death investigations can typically take six weeks or longer but because of the solid policework and work of the prosecutors assigned to the case, we were successful in presenting this case to the grand jury in a relatively short time and securing a first-degree murder indictment,” Bain said Wednesday while announcing the new charge. “Madeline deserves justice and our office will do everything legally possible to ensure the defendant is held accountable.”

Bain said at a news conference he has yet to decide if Sterns will face the death penalty and that his office will continue discussing whether that’s appropriate in this case.

He wouldn’t say if Jennifer Soto was suspected of wrongdoing, though police in Kissimmee said she had been cooperative with detectives throughout the investigation.

Designer Roberto Cavalli dead at 83 https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/04/12/designer-roberto-cavalli-dead/ Fri, 12 Apr 2024 19:50:00 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7631743 Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli has died at the age of 83.

The fashionista known for bold, exotic prints died in his hometown of Florence, according to the designer label bearing his name. No cause of death was given.

“It is with great sadness that today we say goodbye to our founder Roberto Cavalli,” the company said in a Friday statement. “Roberto Cavalli’s legacy will live on via his creativity, his love of nature and via his family who he cherished.”

The brand’s creative director paid homage to the visionary who launched the Roberto Cavalli label in 1970.

“Dear Roberto, you may not be physically here with us anymore but I know I will feel your spirit with me always,” designer Fausto Puglisi posted on Instagram. “It is the greatest honour of my career to work under your legacy and to create for the brand you founded with such vision and style.”

Roberto Cavalli CEO Sergio Azzolari said Cavalli will live on as a “constant source of inspiration.”

Born in Florence in 1940, Cavalli was the grandson of famed painter Giuseppe Rossi, a member of the Macchiaioli group of Italian Impressionists. Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Cavalli too became an artist, enrolling at the Academy of Art in Florence at the age of 17 to study art and architecture.

While a student, Cavalli made a series of hand-painted sweaters for a friend in the knitwear business, and was soon inspired to branch out on his own after teaching himself textile printing techniques, according to Vogue. It wasn’t long before he caught the attention of major Italian designers including Valentino and Hermès.

At the age of 32, he presented his first namesake collection in Paris and quickly gained a list of celebrity clientele like Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren.

In the decades that followed, stars seen sporting Cavalli’s colorful designs have included style icons such as Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham and Madonna, who commissioned Cavalli to design the staff uniforms at her Hard Candy Fitness Club in Berlin.

The house Cavalli built also costumed Taylor Swift for the 2023 Grammy Awards as well as her $1 billion Era’s Tour.

When Beyoncé took the stage for her blockbuster Renaissance Tour, she too wore Roberto Cavalli. In a 2011 book celebrating 40 years of his work, Beyoncé thanked Cavalli “for being such a brilliant designer.

As an artist, Cavalli celebrated selective overkill, whether it be leopard-print gowns or sand-blasted denim — the latter of which he’s created with inventing.

Excess is success,” he would famously say.

When Cavalli served as Grand Marshall for New York City’s 2003 Columbus Day Parade, Cavalli rode in an Alfa Romeo convertible flanked by 20 Ducati motorcycle drivers, each with a model riding piggyback.

Though Cavalli was often seen designing for beautiful women, it was his own gender that he felt needed his help.

“I love women’s fashion, but women don’t need me as much as men do,” he said, according to British Vogue. “It’s the men who have nothing to wear.”

Men spotted wearing his eye-catching designs include the likes of rockers Lenny Kravitz and Adam Lambert.

Cavalli’s exuberant ethos carried over into his other business ventures as well, such as a popular Spanish nightclub and the first premium vodka produced entirely in Italy.

By the time of his death, he was estimated to be worth around $500 million, putting him among the top 50 richest designers in the world.

Cavalli fathered six children across two marriages and one long-term relationship, according to CNN. His sixth child, with 38-year-old model Sandra Nilsson, was born early last year. The couple had been together since 2014.

Josh Waring, son of ‘Real Housewives’ alum Lauri Peterson, dead at 35 https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/04/06/rhoc-lauri-peterson-son-josh-waring-death/ Sat, 06 Apr 2024 20:39:48 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7620612 Josh Waring, son of former “Real Housewives of Orange County” star Lauri Peterson, has died at the age of 35.

Peterson shared the tragic news on Instagram Saturday alongside a series of photos of Waring at various ages and events throughout his life.

“It is with a shattered heart that I write this post to let you know that my sweet Josh left this earth Easter Sunday,” she wrote.

“No one can ever prepare you for this feeling of such deep loss. Every fiber in my body hurts,” Peterson added. “Josh fought every single day for most of his adult life, for his life, but this past Sunday, the challenge was too great.”

The reality TV star went on to reminisce about her son’s childhood, which was “filled with deep intellect, humor, pranks, athletics, snow boarding, body boarding mountain hikes, reading, friends and his love for music.”

She added that even as his struggles increased as an adult, Waring “continued to maintain his sense of humor, continued to be optimistic, continued to be kind to others, defended those that were unable to defend themselves and continued to love his family so so much!”

Peterson also expressed gratitude for everyone who “tried to help Josh along the way,” before alluding to some of his struggles with substance abuse and praying that her son has finally found peace.

Waring made headlines in recent years, having spent four years behind bars for attempted murder after shooting a man outside a sober living home in Costa Mesa, Calif. in 2016.

In 2022, Waring pleaded guilty after he was found in possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine, the Los Angeles Times reported. He was sentenced to two years in prison and was released last December.

He was arrested again in February for punching a hospital security guard, according to The Orange County Register. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating the previous terms of his release.

Waring is survived by his 11-year-old daughter, Kennady.

Missing actor Cole Brings Plenty found dead in Kansas woods https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/04/05/cole-brings-plenty-found-dead-kansas-woods/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 22:20:27 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7619410 The body of missing actor Cole Brings Plenty was found Friday morning in a wooded area outside Kansas City, Mo., the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office announced.

The 27-year-old nephew of “Yellowstone” star Mo Brings Plenty had been missing since Sunday and was wanted by the Lawrence Police Department on allegations of domestic violence.

Shortly before noon on Friday, Johnson County deputies responded to an area in Edgerton, Kan. — roughly 35 miles from downtown Kansas City — following reports of an abandoned vehicle. Upon arriving at the scene, officers searched the area and discovered Brings Plenty dead “in a wooded area away from the vehicle.”

Authorities did not provide any information on his cause or manner of death, and said an investigation is ongoing.

Brings Plenty was reportedly last seen Sunday morning after officers responded to an apartment in Lawrence, Kan., on reports of a female screaming for help, according to local CBS affiliate KCTV.

By the time they arrived, he had already fled the scene. He was caught on traffic cameras traveling southbound on Highway 59 in a 2005 white Ford Explorer.

His family members first reported him missing after he failed to show up for an audition Monday morning, which they called “uncharacteristic.”

An affidavit was filed for his arrest on Tuesday, which Lawrence police confirmed was related to “allegations of domestic violence.” They did not provide additional information on the incident beyond that he’d been charged with aggravated burglary, domestic battery and criminal restraint.

Brings Plenty, a Haskell Indian Nations University student from the Mnicouju Lakota tribe, starred in two episodes of the “Yellowstone” spinoff “1923” as Pete Plenty Clouds. He also appeared in “The Tall Tales of Jim Bridger” and “Into the Wild Frontier.”

Taylor Swift curates Apple Music playlists exploring 5 stages of heartbreak https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/04/05/taylor-swift-apple-music-playlists/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 21:20:07 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7619166 Taylor Swift isn’t just the chairman of “The Tortured Poets Department,” but she’s ensuring fans are familiar with her particular curriculum of grief ahead of her new album dropping April 19.

Apple Music on Friday released five playlists curated by the 34-year-old Grammy winner, each of which corresponds to a track name on “TTPD.”

Apple attributed the project to Swifties “landing on the theory that her 11th studio album is sure to explore the five stages of heartbreak” — denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Each playlist begins with a special recorded “Message From Taylor,” detailing what ties each collection together.

“When Swifties agree upon a theory, Taylor takes an interest — so, naturally, she’s responded by crafting a series of exclusive playlists, choosing songs of her own that fit each stage,” the streamer said.

The first collection, titled “I Love You, It’s Ruining My Life,” explores the stage of denial, with songs including “Lavender Haze” and “Style.”

“This is a list of songs about getting so caught up in the idea of something that you have a hard time seeing the red flags, possibly resulting in moments of denial and maybe a little bit of delusion,” Swift says in her message at the start of the playlist.

The second collection, “You Don’t Get to Tell Me About Sad,” features songs Swift says she “wrote while feeling anger,” including “Vigilante S–t” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

The third stage, bargaining, is explored in “Am I Allowed to Cry?,” through songs like “Say Don’t Go” and “This Is Me Trying.”

The fourth collection, “Old Habits Die Screaming” — including favorites like “Champagne Problems” and “Forever Winter” — touches on “the feelings of depression that often lace their way through [Swift’s] songs.”

“In times like these, I’ll write a song because I feel lonely or hopeless. And writing a song feels like the only way to process that intensity of an emotion,” Swift says in the playlist’s special message. “While these things are really, really hard to go through, I often feel like when I’m either listening to songs or writing songs that deal with this intensity of loss and hopelessness, usually that’s in the phase where I’m close to getting past that feeling.”

Lastly, the “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” collection deals in acceptance and moving on from heartbreak through songs like “You’re On Your Own, Kid” and “Closure.”

“These songs represent making room for more good in your life — making that choice — because a lot of times when we lose things, we gain things too,” Swift says.

Swift announced her upcoming album in February while accepting the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Solar eclipse visible in New York on April 8: where to watch, how to get free glasses https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/03/30/solar-eclipse-april-8-new-york-time-where-to-watch-guide/ Sat, 30 Mar 2024 18:00:33 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7605605 The 2024 solar eclipse‘s path of totality will cross over certain parts of New York State on April 8 in what NASA says will be the last chance to see a total eclipse in the U.S. for the next 20 years.

Buffalo and Rochester are predicted to witness a total eclipse, meaning the sun will be completely covered by the moon, sometime between 3:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Other nearby cities, including NYC, will only experience a partial eclipse.

Millions of people are expected to travel to cities stretching across the path of the eclipse from Texas to Maine, where it’s anticipated to be at its strongest. However, experts warn not to look at an eclipse without protective glasses.

Here’s a guide on where to watch, what to expect and how to prepare for the historic event, including where to stock up on glasses.

Where and when can I watch the solar eclipse?

The eclipse will be visible to some extent in all states, except Alaska and Hawaii.

Stretching from the Texas/Mexico border to the Maine/Canada border, the path of totality will cross many major cities including Dallas, Tex.; Little Rock, Ark.; Indianapolis, Ind.; Cleveland, Ohio; Buffalo, N.Y., Erie, Pa; Burlington, Vt.; and Lancaster, N.H.

The time when totality occurs is also important to note, and is slightly different for each location. Texas will begin to experience the eclipse around 1:27 p.m. CT, with totality coming to an end in Maine around 3:35 p.m. ET.

The timing and coverage percentage of the eclipse in your location can be found by entering your zip code at EclipseSoundscapes.org.

Those in the New York City area will experience coverage of around 90%. The eclipse is expected to begin at 2:10 p.m. and end at approximately 4:36 p.m.

Here are the best times for those in the Northeast to step outside and see their maximum eclipse:

  • New York City – 3:25 p.m.
  • Long Island, NY – 3:26 p.m.
  • Buffalo, NY – 3:20 p.m.
  • Rochester, NY – 3:21 p.m.
  • Albany, NY – 3:26 p.m.
  • Trenton, NJ – 3:24 p.m.
  • Philadelphia, Pa. – 3:23 p.m.
  • Hartford, Conn. – 3:27 p.m.
  • Baltimore, Md. – 3:21 p.m.
  • Boston, Mass. – 3:29 p.m.

If you’re not in the path of the eclipse, you can watch it live on the NASA website.

Will there be any public gatherings or parties for the eclipse?

The Edge at Hudson Yards is offering tickets starting at $36 to watch the eclipse from its observation deck, with protective glasses included and the chance to purchase a specialty “Solar Sipper” cocktail.

The New York Hall of Science in Queens will also be offering a watch party with glasses included.

The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum is hosting a similar viewing event but with the opportunity to watch from the flight deck of the Intrepid aircraft carrier, located at Pier 86 on the Hudson River.

More opportunities for communal observation abound at the American Museum of Natural History, One World Observatory, 230 Fifth Rooftop Bar and other venues.

Will the weather forecast affect the view?

Thick clouds do have the potential to block the view of the eclipse, but forecasters are predicting a picturesque day in New York City, with low cloud coverage — somewhere around 35% — and temperatures in the 60s on Monday.

For those in upstate New York, including Buffalo where the eclipse is predicted to be at its fullest, there’s expected to be far greater cloud coverage (81%) and a chance of slight showers.

In Rochester, forecasters predict “variable cloudiness” (76%), while Albany residents will have more sun (and only 28% could coverage). Other major nearby cities like Trenton and Philadelphia are expected to have sunshine mixed with clouds.

Is the eclipse dangerous?

Yes, the exciting phenomenon could potentially cause harm if observed improperly. And it has the potential to create problems on the ground as well.

Those who plan to look directly at the eclipse need special ISO-certified protective glasses, and experts have warned consumers to avoid buying knock-offs. Directly viewing the sun during an eclipse can cause serious and permanent damage to your eyes.

There’s also the possibility of car crashes and other travel issues during the eclipse as people scramble to get a good view. Flights may also be delayed or canceled due to congested travel and an unusually high number of drones in the sky.

Gov. Kathy Hochul warned NYC residents of increased traffic and congestion in the state as tourists travel to view the eclipse.

Although construction and lane closures will be paused for the day, state officials recommend arriving at viewing destinations early and planning to stay late to avoid major traffic issues.

Where can I get protective glasses?

Vendors approved by the American Astronomical Society can be found on eclipse websites including GreatAmericanEclipse.com and NationalEclipse.com, as well as through American Paper Optics, the nation’s largest supplier of eclipse glasses.

Warby Parker is giving away free eclipse glasses at its retail locations nationwide beginning April 1, while supplies last. You can claim up to two pairs of glasses per family.

Free protective glasses are also being handed out at participating MyEyeDr locations, including six in New York State and 33 in Connecticut.

You may also be able to find free glasses at your local public library.

What if I can’t get protective glasses in time?

One option is a solar filter, which you can purchase and attach to telescopes, binoculars or cameras.

It’s recommended you consult the manufacturer of your device to find the right filter. Do not use telescopes, binoculars or cameras without them, even if you have protective glasses.

A cheaper option is a pinhole viewer — an easily-made device that involves two sheets of paper, some tinfoil and a hole. You simply turn your back to the sun and adjust your position until you see the outline of the sun or eclipse on the piece of paper. More in-depth directions are available here.

What makes this eclipse unique?

The 2024 total solar eclipse, or the “Great North American Eclipse” as it’s being dubbed, is creating particular buzz due to the unusual accessibility it will offer to millions across the country.

This year’s eclipse offers a much wider, more populated path of totality than the eclipse some may remember from 2017, as well as a longer time in totality for those in the right spot (more than 4 minutes of darkness, as opposed to 2 minutes in 2017).

There will also be increased solar activity compared to the last total eclipse, meaning a higher likelihood of seeing prominences on the surface of the sun, appearing as bright pink curls rising off the surface.

If you’re lucky, you may even witness a coronal mass ejection, or a large explosion of plasma and other solar materials.
