Doris Day, born on April 3, 1922, was a legendary singer and actress with a career spanning more than six decades. Her prolific career began in 1939 as a big band singer, recording more than 650 songs in a twenty-year solo music career. Day starred in numerous films, including Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' (1956) opposite James Stewart, 'The Pajama Game' (1957), 'Pillow Talk' (1959) opposite Rock Hudson, 'That Touch of Mink' (1962) opposite Cary Grant and 'With Six You Get Eggroll' (1968) opposite Brian Keith. She was a lifelong animal lover and supporter. In 1978, she founded the Doris Day Animal Foundation which helps animals in need find forever homes, while personally having rescued and fostered hundreds of animals at her own home. Day died of pneumonia on May 13, 2019, at her home in Carmel Valley, Calif., after being in excellent health for her age. She was 97.
